На 14 март 2019 г., четвъртък, от 13:15 ч. в зала 300 на ИЯИЯЕ ще се състои сбирка, на която Иван Тодоров ще изнесе доклад на тема:

"Калибровъчен произвол и закони за запазване: от 1873 до днес".

Исторически обзор на постепенното изясняване на различни страни на калибровъчната симетрия - от трактата на Максуел (1873), през забележителните работи на Херман Вайл от 1918 и 1929, до днешното обсъждане на връзката между калибровъчния произвол и глобалните закони за запазване.

"The gradual understanding of various facets of gauge symmetry".

Historical survey of the origin of gauge symmetry following the reviews (including original texts of Weyl (1918, 1929), Fock (1926) etc.) [O'R, OS, JO]. Covariant gauges in QED and the B-field of Nakanishi and Lautrup [NO]. Revival of interest (including Dirac's) in the 1970's in the Weyl "infinitesimal geometry" of 1918 [S17].

A readable recent outlook by E. Witten [W] on the breaking of global conservation laws and emergence of local gauge invariance gave rise to comments in Physics Forums where a partly overlapping earlier work, [BCDG], was also invoked in the discussion.
